There’s no doubt that AI will shape our ways of working quite enormously in the next upcoming years and beyond. You’ve probably noticed that ChatGPT is already changing the game for Recruiters and Sourcers worldwide.
In order to stay on top of your game, we’ve put together with Samira Soltani our years of expertise in technical recruitment with some explorations with ChatGPT. Here’s a little disclaimer for you – the tool is not perfect yet but definitely worth trying out yourself to make your job as a Recruiter or Sourcer faster, more efficient … and more interesting!
#1 Market mapping and preparation for the search
Job description summarization
The example was used based on a role of a Partnership Manager (Finland)in a peer-to-peer lending company.
Summarize this job description and tell me what this role is all about. Please make it better readable in three paragraphs.
For the free version of ChatGPT3.5, you need to copy-paste the text from the job advertisement.
Helping you in market mapping and finding some competitive companies that you can source from
What are the top fintech companies in Finland?
What are the top online lending companies in Finland?
Who are the main competitors for X company in Finland?
You should try out different wordings since the search results tend to vary quite much. You won’t get the full truth but it will give you at least some hints about where to start looking for.
Make it a table format based on the company size and the year of founding.
#2 Generating the search keywords and Boolean strings
Suggesting the search keywords
What are the main keywords I should use when sourcing candidates for the Senior Golang Developer role?
What are the most similar programming languages to Golang?
Generating Boolean strings
Can you make a boolean string for searching for a Senior Golang Developer using up to 5 “OR” operators?
(“Senior Golang Developer” OR “Senior Go Engineer” OR “Senior Go Programmer” OR “Experienced Golang Developer” OR “Golang Software Engineer”)
Can you make me a search string in Google for finding top Golang developers in Estonia from Github?
Unfortunately, the tool is not that witty yet to give you the right strings for more specific searches such as one on GitHub. Still, if you know enough about sourcing on GitHub, it gives you a hint to paste the string (location:Estonia language:Go followers:>100) on the GitHub search or use it through Google search (site:github.com “block or report” Estonia Go).
Another workaround that you can use to pull ideas for the search on GitHub:
Can you suggest where I can search for top users by Golang programming language on GitHub?
#3 Widening your search even more
Giving you a hint on what platforms you should search for your candidates
I want to source and find candidates for a UX Designer role, what sources and platforms do you suggest I use?
Are there any platforms which work better when looking for the role in Germany?
What are the main UX design communities in Germany, including associations and networking events?
Helping you to find synonyms of your role for making your search wider
Create a list of synonyms for the role “UX Designer” including the top 10 most widely used.
As you can see, we got 15 instead of 10 but, hey, let’s give the tool a bit of time to develop and get better! 😉
Are there some synonyms for this role in the German language which I should cover as well?
Remember, the same rule that applies to interviewing also applies here. The quality of the answer highly depends on the quality of your question.
So in order to master your collaboration skills with AI tools such as ChatGPT, you need to play with it and constantly iterate to learn how to ask the right questions and get the quality answers that you are looking for.
The tool is not bullet-proof and doesn’t work perfectly on every occasion, so first of all, trust the grey cells in your brain and double-check when in doubt.
